CQ NA / CQ North America

I had called CQ during the morning hours of local time of several days on the 15 meter band in this fall DX season, assuming it was possible to find callers in North America, as there were some callers in Europe, but had found no caller until yesterday.
Two stations, AA0FO in Kansas and KN1W in New Hampshire, finally called me responding to my CQ’s. I know that it is reckless to call CQ’s with the 50 watt transmission by the Yaesu FT-450D through a meager dual band HB9CV for 10 and 15 meter bands, but I wanted to test my new setup. The band condition must have been good, and it must have been the best day of the week, still Sunday stateside though it was already Monday here in Japan. I was surprised to find the first and second callers beyond the Rocky Mountains. There must be many stations in the West Coast but JA call signs may not attract their attentions.

                Yaesu FT-450D on my radio desk

先日から朝の北米が開けている時間帯に２１ＣＷで何回がＣＱを出してみていましたが、一向にコールがありませんでした。ヨーロッパからは、ときどきコールがあったので、北米にも飛ぶのではないかと試していました。

昨日、月曜日にやっと２局からコールがありました。ちょっと意外でしたが、近くて出来やすいだろうと思っていた西海岸ではなく、ロッキー山脈の向こうのカンサスとニュー・ハンプシャーでした。西海岸の局は、ＪＡを呼ぶ気にならないのかも知れません。

昨日は、コンディションが良かったのでしょう。また、あちらは日曜日なので、ワッチしている局も多かったと思います。今まで月曜日はだいたい他のことをしていましたが、月曜の午前を無線に有効活用しないと損だと思い始めました。なお、カンサスのAA0FO局は、３エレメントのクワッドといっていました。もう一局のKN1Wは、QRZ.comを見るとリグの前に少年がいる写真が出ます。本人なのか、子供なのかそれとも孫なのか、ちょっと分かりません。
