Edo Castle 2 江戸城 ２

It was a pleasant sunny day yesterday. I went to the Edo Castle, also known as the Chiyoda Castle, for a long walk and saw most of remaining gate buildings and yagura (keeps). I started from the Shimizu Gate, probably the least visited gate of the castle.

Watari-yagura, a bridge-shaped keep, of the Shimizu Gate viewed from inside koguchi area, where attackers must turn 180 degrees to proceed even if they succeed to break the gate.

昨日は、天気が良くて屋内にいるのはもったいなかったので、江戸城（千代田城）の門と櫓を見て歩きました。渡り櫓の残っている城門は、記憶しているかぎり、田安、清水、平川、大手、桔梗、坂下、西の丸大手（皇居正門）、桜田の８つだと思いますが、その内の田安、平川を除く６つをまわりました。清水門は、北の丸公園の東側のあまり人の通らないところにあり、行ったのは初めてではないかと思います。
